HOG Bahrain Chapter is all set to attract motorcyclists and enthusiasts from across the region
Perhaps there is something about being a Harley owner. “It is indescribable. It’s like flying in the air,” says Shadi Barakat, assistant director, Bahrain Chapter, Harley Owners Group (HOG), and the owner of three Harley Davidson motorcycles – Sportster, Dyna Street Bob and the largest one the Ultra Glide. It was in 2008 that Barakat got his first Harley – the Sportster – and since then there has been no looking back.
Apart from owning the bikes, Barakat is also a keen rider who has taken part in numerous HOG rides, in country and abroad, like Kuwait, Munich, Italy, Austria, to name a few. HOG is the largest factory sponsored motorcycle enthusiast organisation in the world, with over a million members. “Joining the HOG is like entering heaven. We represent Bahrain in each and every rally across the world,” Barakat adds. He plans to visit Europe in 2017 for another HOG rally.
The third season
Celebrating more of such passionate riders, the HOG Bahrain Chapter and Harley- Davidson Bahrain are gearing up to host the third HOG Bahrain Rally from November 10- 12 this year in the country. Preparations are in full swing to make the event a success. Sheikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, director of the Bahrain Chapter, says, “We are working hard to ensure that all the bikers from the region and further abroad will have a great time with the fantastic activities lined up for them.” “This year the event is even bigger as it has been awarded the prestigious 16th MENA (Middle East & North Africa) HOG Rally title by Harley-Davidson MENA,” informs Barakat, adding, “We are expecting over 500-600 bikers in the rally and over a 3,000 people to witness the show.”
The event has many other attractions. A motorcycle carnival will be held on November 11 at the Bahrain International Circuit’s vending area, which will feature an array of attractions, including a display with the Harley-Davidson 2017 model range, custom bike shows, exhibitions boxing games as well as an international rock concert. The concert will feature one of the biggest global guitar icons, ‘Bumblefoot’ (former lead guitarist of Guns N’ Roses currently playing for Art of Anarchy) and Dubai-based independent rock band, Point of View. The concert will also see one of Bahrain’s top rock bands, Hot Laser, who will open the concert.
In addition, activities for Harley-Davidson enthusiasts, families and children will include a Kids Zone, a mini-cinema area showing iconic motorcycle films, a food and beverage area and a day market featuring some of Bahrain’s upcoming businesses.
“The rally is set to be a celebration of a shared passion for freedom, self-expression and adventure. Brand enthusiasts know that Harley-Davidson is not about transportation or getting from point A to B. It’s about living life the way they choose,” adds Elsa Abi Nader, marketing manager of Harley-Davidson Middle East and North Africa.
