New look, more power, new tech for British grand tourer
Last month, Bentley revealed the next generation model of their Grand Tourer the Continental GT. It is more powerful, lighter and better equipped than before. The styling is refined and luxurious, with the smooth lines and curves across the body married with metal grille and air intakes. It’s minimal and simplistic at the rear.
The roofline tapers slopes down to the new spoiler and is underscored by the new badging on the back. Bentley is a fan of the oval rear lights and chrome strip that wraps around the car from the side to the rear and chrome detailing around the lights, window line and exhausts.
Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors, said: “Bentley has been at the forefront of luxury Grand Touring for nearly 100 years. The new, third-generation Continental GT is the pinnacle of our design and engineering achievements and marks the next step in Bentley’s journey.”
Power and torque
It’s powerful too. At the beating heart of the Continental GT is a 6.0-litre W12 TSI engine which delivers 626bhp and 900Nm of max torque. This powertrain has been moved further back to improve weight distribution and is paired with a duel-clutch eight-speed transmission, which has been calibrated to allow faster and more efficient gear changes.
With a top speed of 207mph, the Continental GT can race from 0-62mph in a mere 3.7 seconds. Bentley’s intelligent 48-volt Dynamic Ride System ensures a responsive ride and exceptional handling and refinement. However, it’s inside the car where it becomes truly special.
Offering four seats and improved luggage capacity, the Continental GT’s cabin is packed with exquisite details such as a new ‘diamond in diamond’ leather design. The team over at Bentley has created a centre console that rotates and has three faces reminiscent of that James Bond licence plate from Goldfinger.
The three screens it can toggle between are the main 12.3-inch touchscreen, there analogue gauges (a chronometer, compass and temperature dials) or alternatively a piece of veneer, which disguises the whole completely.
The windscreen also stretched back further which looks to create more light and illusion of space inside the cabin. That huge, 2,200 watts audio system with 18 individual speakers will surely be the perfect way to soundtrack your journey when you hear the engine roar.
“We are the world leader in luxury mobility and our products and services define new luxury in the automotive world. The new Continental GT encapsulates our desire to innovate as well as celebrate our heritage and take the Bentley ownership experience to the next, unparalleled level,” adds the chairman and chief executive of Bentley Motors.
