Aviation enthusiasts can celebrate the return of the Bahrain International Airshow, the fastest growing airshow in the region, being held under the patronage of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, at the Sakhir Airbase from November 14-16, 2018. Since its inception in 2010, BIAS was designed to be a platform where the global aviation business community can come to do business, network, launch new innovations and exchange knowledge and expertise in a custom-targeted setting. Today it is the fastest growing airshow in the Middle East, having grown around 60% in terms of companies’ participation since its inception and 75% growth in terms of visitor numbers.
Organised by Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication and the Royal Bahraini Air Force with the support of Farnborough International, the show’s commercial and military delegations programme makes participating in the show attractive. With invited delegations from MENA States, India, the US, UK and other countries, it is an exceptional opportunity to meet with key decision-makers in the government and industry. For local and global businesses already based in the Kingdom and for those looking to explore the opportunities, the show provides a forum to host clients and network with prospective business partners.
Conferences are held on the sidelines of the show where delegates can exchange knowledge and ideas. On the agenda this year is an Airport Conference, “Into the Future: Challenges and Opportunities for Gulf region Airports and Airlines” and, for the second consecutive show, the 2nd Manama Air Power Symposium will once again bring together a select audience of Air Force chiefs, commanders, policy-makers and industry representatives to discuss the major issues in air power with the theme: Air Power Applied in Networked Coalition and Joint Environments.
A unique Exhibition Hall that is housed inside the hangar at the airbase will provide visitors a chance to see showcased products and technologies from around the world. This year, space science will be featured as Bahrain’s new National Space Science Agency launches its work, and a number of regional and international space research centres and organisations will be present, including UAE Space Agency, Roscosmos and Information Satellite Systems – Reshetnev Company (ISS-Reshetnev).
One of the show’s most exciting attractions is the aircraft displays, both on the ground and in the air, with around 100 aircraft expected to be part of this year’s show. The top-in-class aerobatic flying teams will also be showing off their skills in scheduled flying displays over the three days of the show. In addition to the trade show, the public can also enjoy a wide range of fun activities for the whole family, with a dedicated area for entertainment and recreation open to the public for which tickets will go on sale soon.
