If your idea of a vacation is spending quality time with your inner self , Tamara Coorg, India, is the place to be
All you city folks, have you ever wanted to waft in the silence? And, in its deceptive guise, listen to the sounds deep within, to discover unaccustomed pleasures and feel nothingness. Then you need to head to Tamara Coorg.
In the lap of nature
Far from the madding crowd, this resort near Madikeri is nestled in the unmapped hills of Coorg. One of the few places in the world that is built inside a functional coffee plantation, The Tamara Coorg presides over an estate of 170 acres producing coffee, cardamom, pepper and honey.
Flanked by the rock face of a hill on one side, the wooden cottages almost float amidst the trees on the other. In a quest to be environment-friendly and sustainable, each of these 52 cottages with high, sloping roofs and French windows are built on stilts with unparalleled views of the valley and Virajpet. The resort also offers silent, emissions-free golf-cart buggies for guest movement. The multi-cuisine restaurant, The Falls, offers regional, national, international and fusion cuisines whereas The Deck is a lounge bar and grill.
Make your own coffee
Join the yoga session for a rejuvenating experience in the lap of nature. Or better so, go for a pepper and coffee trail. My favourite experience was to head to The Verandah and make my own blend and pop and roast my coffee from the varieties of peaberry, Arabica and robusta. So sip your coffee while a cloud of mist suddenly surrounds you.
How to get there
While travelling from Virajpet to Madikeri, turn off to Kabbinkad through many hair-pin bends. The Kabbinakad junction is 310km from Bangalore, 195km from Mangalore and 210km from Kozhikode.
